Swire Hotels gets in the holiday spirit with Christmas trees, decorations and festivities.
Every year, the properties of both The House Collective and EAST welcome the holiday season with unique Christmas trees, festive decorations and celebrations. Although this year has been one of many challenges, our properties were still able to get in the holiday spirit and spread warmth and joy in the communities that they are in.
Every year in Chengdu, The Temple House is known for its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony where they invite their guests and the community to join them for a night of celebration. For the past four years, the House has created a sustainable Christmas tree and this year was no exception. The tree was made from recycled bamboo from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and after the festivities, the bamboo will be used to house the herb garden at the House. The Temple House also hosted a Christmas charity bazaar selling all things Christmas related with the proceeds going towards research and conservation of the giant panda.
Over in Hong Kong, EAST Hong Kong continued its tradition of putting up its Christmas village made from upcycled wine boxes and other items that otherwise would have gone to waste. At The Upper House, a ‘Doodle Tree’ made of neon lights was created in collaboration with international architecture firm Collective and Mr. Wu Chi Kai, one of the last three local craftsmen skilled in the art of the iconic neon lights and signs seen around Hong Kong. As always, the tree has been put up for auction, with this year’s proceeds benefiting ImpactHK, a local charity dedicated to helping the homeless.
In Beijing, EAST Beijing has put on display a Christmas tree comprised of hundreds of blue and white enamel porcelain plates symbolising both Eastern and Western cultures. They’ve also continued their collaboration with local charity Roundabout, encouraging guests and the community to donate winter clothes and backpacks that will be sent to students and families in Qinghai and Yunnan Provinces to provide them with warmth and hope this winter season.
