EAST Hong Kong’s Christmas Village

In an effort to bring more attention and awareness to sustainability, EAST Hong Kong reuses different hotel materials such as used wine boxes and corks rather than throwing them out. In 2018, following the aftermath of Typhoon Mangkhut, Hong Kong’s worst typhoon on record, the EAST Hong Kong team gathered at the Kai Tak tree waste collection area to collect fallen trees and broken branches for their Christmas village. With some help from Swire Properties Limited and engineers from EAST Hong Kong, the team was able to reclaim and repurpose the collected wood.
 
Students from JCSRS (Jockey Club Sarah Roe School), a school dedicated to children with special needs, put the finishing touches to painting and transforming the wood into Santa Clauses. The wooden Santa Clauses would be placed in the Christmas Village and displayed around the hotel at Feast (Food by EAST) and Sugar (Bar.Dec.Lounge) as part of their Christmas decorations.
