SARAH MA

Waitress, Village Café

Sarah Ma graduated from Hebei Radio and Television University with a degree in Hotel Administration. Before moving to The Opposite House, she was at Block 8, a popular dining and dancing destination in Beijing. Her move to Mesh has allowed her to continue to improve her knowledge of wine and mixed drinks as well as her people skills. So far, her most valuable lesson learnt is adjusting to the variable demands of guests and how to better communicate with her team. Her favourite drink is the rum based Mojito. Yummy.

OLIVER WEI

Room Attendant, The Opposite House

Oliver is fresh in every sense. Having just graduated from the Beijing Vocational College of Finance and Commerce with a degree in Tourism Management, he joined housekeeping to gain firsthand knowledge of a hotel’s inner-workings. Popular, especially with the ladies, Oliver’s smile is warming and contagious. Ironically, he’s not the tidiest person in the world, but his abilities and penchant for learning makes him one of our go-to-guys in the department. He’s also a big fan of Beijing’s Guo’an Football Club.

KELVIN ZHAO

Workout & Pool Team Leader, The Opposite House

Sporting a purple Mohawk on his first day of work, Kelvin Zhao likes to make an impression. Kelvin is a Workout & Pool Team Leader at The Opposite House. “Exercising is equivalent to happiness, and this is the message I want to share with our guests,” says Kelvin, who is more than proud of the 22-metre stainless steel swimming pool at the House. “It’s tranquil yet sexy; you feel like you’re floating in space with stars surrounding you.” In his free time, Kelvin plays badminton and more than a few rounds of bowling. Now that the Mohawk is gone, he is constantly searching for inspiring new patterns to be shaved onto his head.

LISA LUI

Assistant to General Manager, The Upper House

The excitement of meeting different guests each day is what brings Lisa Lui to the hotel industry, starting her career as a Front Office Agent. “You’ll never get bored working in a hotel no matter which department you’re in; everyday is a new challenge,” says Lisa. With over 13 years of Food & Beverage experience prior to joining Swire Hotels, Lisa practices her culinary skills at home in her free time. “Cooking for my family is my biggest enjoyment,” the proud mother of an 18-month-old girl says.

ALDO TSANG

Gust Experience Supervisor, The Upper House

Aldo Tsang is enjoying his first job as a Guest Experience Assistant after graduation. “I really like the young and energetic team here. Team work means a lot to me,” says Aldo. Together with his colleagues at The Upper House, Aldo has created a lot of memorable stays for guests, including arranging birthday surprises or booking the city’s hottest restaurants which guests thought they could never get into. “I love being on the operational side because everyday is different,” adds Aldo. Not only does Aldo enjoy working with the team, his fellow colleagues are also great to hang out with after work, especially for karaoke nights!

LANCE YUEN

Business Development Analyst

New Zealand-born Lance Yuen studied in Australia and the United States before coming back to Hong Kong with a dream to make a movie some day. Besides writing romantic comedy screenplays in his free time, Lance is also the sports buff in the office. Everyday of the week, you can catch Lance playing either basketball, tennis or dodgeball. Check out the Hong Kong dodgeball scene at Smithfield in Kennedy Town, where Lance plays for his team Deuce twice a week.

EDWARD TANG

Guest Experience Manager, The Upper House

Edward likes to be in the sun. From being a regular in his college’s handball team to playing basketball, swimming or just any kind of activity that’s involves being in the sun (and a lot of sweating), Edward is up for it. Edward joined Swire Hotels 3 years ago as a Management Trainee and first spent 1.5 years in Beijing with The Opposite House where he learnt about all the aspects of different departmental operations. Always curious (or easily surprised as some would say), Edward’s favourite phrase is “Oh Really!” and this has even become the title of The Opposite House’s team members newsletter! Edward has now moved back to Hong Kong as Guest Experience Manager at The Upper House.

SELINA TANG

Public Relations Officer, EAST

Anyone who knows Selina, the PR Officer of EAST, will agree that she is a charming and talkative person who is making new friends all the time. "I love meeting new people, discovering new places and cultures, and listening to the story of others. Working in the hotel industry is therefore correct for me. I think I am one of those lucky people who get to do things that they truly enjoy for a living." If Selina wasn’t in PR, she would be a backpacker travelling around the world. On a Sunday evening, if she isn’t out partying with friends, you can catch Selina staying home, watching her favourite TV series - Hotel Babylon.

IRENE LEE

Personal Assistant to Managing Director

From takoyaki (octopus dumplings) at the mall food court to sushi and yakitori (skewered chicken) at the authentic fine dining restaurants, Irene loves them all and it is not hard to tell that she is an absolute Japanese food lover. If you can not find her at the staff dining room “Recharge” during lunch time, it is very likely that she is getting her own Japanese bento box instead. Simply ask her where to go if you are craving for a particular type of Japanese cuisine and she will tell you the right place to go to off the top of her head! So what exactly does Irene love about Japanese cuisine except for its great taste? “The use of fresh ingredients, the artful presentation, the perfection of techniques shown by the skillful chef, and the great varieties of the food offered. (Not to mention they are healthy and low in calories!)”
